The Ilanot Review
When I was a creative writing student at Bar-Ilan university, I thought that there should be a platform for students to publish their work. I suggested this, and was told I was welcome to create one. I must have been in the mood for a challenge. I put together an editorial staff, and we put out two online issues. Since, then, we have been joined by a wonderful faculty advisor who has helped us make the leap from being a student publication to an international literary journal. Though we call ourselves an Israeli journal of creative writing, we receive submissions from all over the world, the best of which we publish in two themed issues a year. We launch each journal with an evening of readings in a suitably inspiring place—past venues have included a Georgian restaurant, the Sipur Pashut bookstore in Tel Aviv, and homes overlooking the walls of Jerusalem.
